everybody's sad about Michael Jackson's death. but i might actually be too young to have really enjoyed him. in the early '90s with the "HIStory" come-back, i bought the cassette tape, but I never liked "Billy Jean" and I think i saw Weird Al's versions of his songs more than the originals. then in college there were student groups who reenacted the Triller dance for various competitions, which was cool at first but got old quick. and now all the radio stations and restaurant DJs are playing a ton of his songs. I'll remember him more for being a weirdo than an amazing musician. sorry, Jacko.

  • Hello, Xangians. do any of my friends read this anymore? should i just post directly to Facebook rather than import them as notes? well whatever, i feel like a long post.

Today was the first day of the spring/summer i'd classify as "hot." nearly 90 in the evening. When I walked the dog at 8 am, it was about 55 degrees, and then i didn't go out again until about 6 pm. Fortunately, i got a lot done at work this afternoon. Tomorrow a good percentage of my day will be taken up by singing. that's right. in public. AB got me to join the "Medtronomes" at work, and we have our first "concert" of the "season" over lunch, along with the other singing group, "Voices of MedWorld." (i know, aren't you amazed that i work for a company that has two groups that meet to sing like high school vocal? it's a great place. except for the current layoffs.) we meet to warm up/practice at 10:30 (we could still use some more practice), then i plan on bringing a sandwich and eating before the concert time at 11:30, otherwise i might fall over while singing. the most challenging number is a 7-minute medley of songs from "Annie." Also a challenge is the fellow soprano who apparently can't tell she isn't hitting her notes. i find her weird in general (I've worked with her before), so i'm hoping maybe she won't show up tomorrow, or i'll just try to sing really loud to cover her up. oh, did i mention where we are performing? at the Caribou Coffee area in our building, which is right by the employee entrance. hopefully we're back in the corner, not out in the open.

Also through work, I have started Weight Watchers. I find it pretty interesting to find out the "points" value of stuff. i bagged up the actual serving size of some crackers I eat, and was amazed that 5 Townhouse crackers (buttery, good with soup) is 3 points. only 5 crackers! so if i buy those again, it will be the reduced fat or whole wheat versions. Food with more fiber balance out the increased calories, since they are "filling foods," so my yummy granola/fiber bars are only 2 points. Today was the second weigh-in, and i lost about 4 lbs, which doesn't really excite me because i always seem to fluxuate about 5 lbs in either direction. so if i can lose 10 lbs and stay there for a while, and actual be able to see a difference, i will be happy. my goal is about 20 lbs, but maybe i'll keep going. I exercised after work tonight (30 mins on the elliptical), after not having worked out for more than a week due to my allergies making my head stuffy and my nose runny and just generally feeling blah. when i was done i was pooped! i ate my granola bar on the walk to the car. so the two "activity points" i earned were immediately used up so i wouldn't pass out while driving home.
i'm driving home to SD this weekend on Friday with the doggie. whenever we go anywhere in the car she's SO hyper and jumping from seat-to-seat and my lap, looking out the window. but i hope she calms down after a while and chills! i will be going by the outlet mall, and i got 2 coupons for stores there today...if it's not to hot out i wonder how long i can leave her alone in the car if i want to shop...

  • only 9:30 and i'm already bored out of my mind. this will be the THIRD DAY in a row without any meetings to go to. A meeting or two breaks up the day and helps me focus on the work i need to do. if all i have to do all day is that work, i get very bored. yesterday i cleaned my cube. it wasn't even that dirty, we've only been here like 6 weeks. i also tend to clean other ppl's cubes. and there's obsessively checking my Tastefully Simple party guest list and amount ordered...bleh! need some mental stimulation! time for a crossword.
